EXCURSIONS

Specific days will be set aside to step away from the daily transformation schedule to experience full day Excursions.  Excursions will depend on weather and availability.  These are some of the experiences you may get to experience.

The Canopy Experience

Experience the Tree Giants & Canopy of the Amazon Rainforest. Completely rebuilt in 2019, our NEW Canopy Experience allows you to explore 6 canopy platforms and zoom through the rainforest on 4 ziplines more than 100 ft above the rainforest floor. These are eco-friendly and sustainable ziplines constructed within the Amazonia Expeditions Property.

Tahuayo River Exploration

Go by boat with your private guide to explore the Tahuayo River. Here you can spot colorful birds (macaws, tanagers, hawks) sloths, neotropical river otters and monkeys along the riverbank. We will typically do this in the mornings for sunrise – pink river dolphin – bird and breathwork BEFORE breakfast!

Frog Valley (Terra Firme)

For this full-day excursion, you will ride a motorboat up the Rio Blanco to visit terra firme (never flooding) ecosystem. Hike through the dense forest searching for beautiful little poison dart frogs, harlequin toads, marmosets, leaf cutter ants and more. This is likely the only place where we will hike.  It is not difficult to hike this area and there is a place to rest under a covered pavillion with tables and benches. NOTE: In 2019, I conducted bat research with the American Museum of Natural History in a collaboration with Peru, USA, and Canada.  We located the largest maternal colony of frog eating bats in the “Giant Log” located on this magnificent site!

Night Excursions

Go for a night hike to search for scorpions, tarantulas, snakes, and other nocturnal wildlife. Explore by boat on the Tahuayo or Blanco River; here you can search for caimans, snakes, and frogs. If you are in the mood to relax….enjoy the constellations while you listen to the jungle symphony all around you. These will be offered each evening and are dependent on weather and water level.  They are spectacular and all are encouraged to try them as many times as you can…each night is always different…always the “Symphony of the Amazon” as a our music backdrop and on clear nights the most incredible views of our milky way galaxy!

Fishing

Head by boat early in the morning or late afternoon to fish for the Piranha, Pacu, Vampire Fish, and other species.

Igapo/varzea Forest Exploration

Explore a unique forest with alternating acidic water flooding (from the upper Tahuayo River) with alkaline water flooding (from the nearby Ucayali). Search for beautiful birds, primates such as pygmy marmosets, tamarins and night monkeys, howler monkeys, and other wildlife.

Cultural Visit

Learn about life in the local communities and about the work of our nonprofit organization Angels of the Amazon. You can visit the Hospital we built and support or the schools we built (and are continuing to build). We will also have an experience with local artists and musicians.  Your paint dyes will all be natural and collected in the rainforest from local berries and created for you by the women of the villages associated with Angels of the Amazon! These wonderful ladies will provide a demonstration of the the dye making process and provide a lesson on the plants, berries and seeds they are collected from.

Tahuampa (flooded forest) Excursion

Canoe in and around permanently flooded forest with a vast diversity of wildlife. Search for the spectacular hoatzin (one of the world’s most interesting and unique birds), black caiman, horned screamers, wattled jacana, giant fishing spiders, giant ficus fig trees and much more. We will have one day set aside for this excursion.  Due to the size of our group, half will go in the morning and half will go in the afternoon!

Birding

Early morning birding along the Tahuayo River. With over 600 species, our region has a higher count of bird species of any site in lowland Amazon Forest.

Cocha Ecosystems

Explore oxbow lakes in search of pink dolphins, wading birds, ospreys, squirrel monkeys and more.

Dolphin Search

Explore nearby oxbow lakes searching for the incredible Pink Dolphins of the Amazon Rainforest. Swimming is possible in some lakes. Note: we do NOT feed or disturb the dolphins in anyway. This is another spot where we will have a sunrise meditation/Breathwork session and go for an early morning swim!

Maria Brown, MS, PWS, GISP

SOMA Advanced Certified Breathwork Coach

Based out of the quaint town of Stony Creek, New York in the southern region of Adirondack State Park, Maria began her career as a restoration ecologist, professional wetland scientist and geospatial analyst. She later became a high school science teacher.

After experiencing life-changing trauma in the summer of 2020, Maria took a leave of absence from teaching to begin a journey to and find her way back to herself. The journey began when Maria visited Phoenix, Arizona to attend her lifelong friend Steph’s MasterPeace Retreat. Soon after she was immersed in her first sound bath and trauma breathwork session. These experiences offered more healing and relief in just a few hours, than her previous 9 months of therapy. Maria knew then the power of breath work, and began her journey to becoming a SOMA certified breathwork coach.
