About Maria
I’m Maria Brown,M.S, PWS, GISP and a certified SOMA Neurosomatic Breath Therapy Practitioner and Transformational Creative Wellness Coach. I live nestled in the serene town of Warrensburg, New York, situated in the picturesque southern region of Adirondack State Park. My journey to this fulfilling profession has been one of profound transformation, guided by the restorative power of breathwork combined with the integrated modalities of yoga, fitness, nature immersion, sound healing, and intuitive therapeutic art facilitated through unique and creative transformational wellness coaching.
In the 1980s, I embarked on my career as a restoration ecologist, professional wetland scientist, and geospatial analyst, driven by a passion for environmental stewardship. Following the joyous arrival of my twins in 1994, I chose to dedicate myself to the role of a stay-at-home mom until they began their educational journey. Subsequently, in 1999, I transitioned into the role of a high school science teacher for the Sayville Public School District and Stony Brook University located on Long Island, where I called home for 57 years until my transformative move to the North Country in early 2022, accompanied by my cherished partner, Dane.
The summer of 2020 marked a profound turning point in my life as I navigated through heartbreak and upheaval amidst a global pandemic. Faced with overwhelming depression, anxiety, and PTSD, I made the courageous decision to take a leave of absence from teaching, embarking on a journey of healing and self-discovery. This pivotal moment led me to attend a Qoya retreat, where I experienced a profound level of vulnerability and introspection, igniting my passion for inner healing and painting.

Following that retreat, I found myself in my first sound bath and trauma breathwork session in Sedona with my amazing friend Steph. I experienced a profound shift, releasing the burdens that weighed heavily on my spirit as I was becoming open enough to feel again and to begin embracing peace, joy, and a newfound perspective on emotional healing. This transformative experience inspired me to delve deeper into breathwork upon returning to Long Island. By June 2021, after 22 years of service, I bid farewell to my teaching career to fully embrace my calling as a breathwork practitioner and creative wellness coach.
My approach to coaching integrates breathwork with various modalities such as hiking, nature immersion, meditation, journaling, creative arts, Qoya, sound baths, yoga, and stretching. Grounded in a deep reverence for nature and daily breathwork and painting practices, I am committed to guiding others on their journey towards release, healing, and self-love.
It is my honor and privilege to serve as a beacon of hope and transformation, empowering individuals to cultivate inner peace and embrace their true purpose. I invite you to join me on this sacred journey of self-discovery and healing.
For me, breathwork is one way that I get to partner with nature, to be mindful and breathe the fresh air, to find peace in the sounds of nature and absorb the beauty and wonder of the natural world around me…to make a personal connection with it while I integrate these wellness and breathwork practices into my daily routine and continue to allow peace to be my guide.
